Organic, gluten-free, steel-cut oats (also called Irish oats) are super healthy: richer in protein than most other grains and full of fiber and a wealth of vitamins and minerals, including manganese, phosphorus, copper, vitamin B1 (thiamine), iron, selenium, magnesium, and zinc. They’re also the only dietary source of avenanthramides, a type of antioxidant which may help prevent heart disease.
If you’ve never tried steel-cut oatmeal, you’re missing out! Steel-cut oats have been cut instead of rolled, so they look more like golden-brown grains of rice than the flat oats you’re used to. Because of this, they take longer to cook than rolled oats—but the result is well worth it.
